WHO:

·Christopher Knight, the actor who played Peter Brady on "The Brady Bunch," grew up struggling with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). He was diagnosed as an adult, sought treatment, and is now a successful entrepreneur.

·Linda Golodner, President of the National Consumers League, the nation's oldest consumer advocacy organization

·Ellen Kingsley , Founder, Editor, and Publisher of ADDitude Magazine, an Emmy award-winning journalist, and the mother of a child with AD/HD.

WHAT: A news conference to unveil a nationwide campaign to educate consumers about Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD).

WHEN: 10 a.m. , Tuesday, August 27, 2002

WHERE:         National Press Club

Zenger Room

529 14th Street, NW

Washington , DC 20045

WHY: About 7 percent of school-age children have been diagnosed with AD/HD, a serious medical condition that can profoundly disrupt mood and behavior. The disorder also affects tens of thousands of adults like Knight. Without proper medical help, studies show, sufferers are at a greater risk for substance abuse, teen pregnancy, and academic problems.

With the new school year approaching, the National Consumers League and ADDitude are launching a national education campaign on AD/HD that will include a series of public service radio announcements featuring Knight and a Web site offering consumers accurate, up-to-date information about the disorder. Note to producers: B-roll of "The Brady Bunch" will be available.
