The Global March Against Child Labor will be a landmark event in the struggle to eradicate child labor around the world. It will be a coordinated series of events and rallies combined with foot marches and bus caravans in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas. The purpose of the Global March is to raise awareness about child labor and to call on all sectors of society to work for its elimination.
In the United States, the Core Marchers will begin their journey on May 2, 1998, in Los Angeles, California. They will travel by bus across the country, stopping along the way in various cities, including: Yuma, Arizona; San Antonio, Texas; Dallas; Little Rock; St. Louis; Chicago; Detroit; Cleveland; Pittsburgh; and New York. The U.S. March will end in Washington, D.C., on May 26.
We would like to have a core group of 20 marchers who will take part in all the activities along the route. We request that Core Marchers commit to at least two weeks of participation. Each Core Marcher should be in good health, as the physical demands of the March will be quite strenuous. Everyone participating as a Core Marcher should be aware of these demands and ready to accept them. Most importantly, we are looking for people committed to ending child labor and eager to make the Global March Against Child Labor a success. If you are one of these people and would like to take part in this historic event to end the exploitation of children, please complete the form on the reverse side.
The Global March will provide transportation to and from the Core Marcher's home, and food, accommodations and transportation along the route.
Several Core Marchers will travel from Washington, D.C., to Geneva, Switzerland, at the end of May. Core Marchers from all over the world will come together there as the International Labor Organization meets to consider a new convention on child labor. If you would like be considered for travel to Geneva, please let us know. The March will provide transportation, food and accommodations for these Marchers as well.
**Please note that all Core Marchers must be at least 13 years old. We encourage teenagers and students as well as adults to participate.
