NCL to Consumers: Are You Getting the Most Out of Your Rx Drug Benefit?

Washington, DC-based Consumer Group Offers Tips to Help Choose and Understand Drug Benefits for Open Season

What

When choosing a health plan, most consumers check the cost of the new plan and make sure that their personal doctor is in the new plan’s network, but they may overlook equally important concerns, especially whether the prescription medicines they’re on are affordable and accessible, according to the National Consumers League.

The nation’s oldest consumer advocacy organization has unveiled new tips to help consumers choose the prescription drug coverage that’s right for them and to understand how the coverage works. At www.nclnet.org/plan, consumers can learn what questions to ask when choosing a prescription drug benefit, become familiar with commonly used terms, and ultimately make the choices that are best for them.

Why:

Prescription drug benefits are not all the same. With open season coming to a close, consumers are working to familiarize themselves with new health plan benefits. Learning how drug coverage works will help consumers choose the best plan for them and their families and ensure they get the medicines their doctor prescribes with little hassle.

Understanding and choosing new plans can be confusing. NCL’s new guide for consumers will arm them with the questions they need to ask. These tips are attached at the end of advisory and are available at www.nclnet.org/plan.
