NCL Honors Carol Tucker Foreman with Trumpeter Award

Washington, D.C...Carol Tucker Foreman, a national food safety advocate was awarded the Trumpeter award from the National Consumers League on Wednesday, October 8. Foreman has had a major impact on diet and health issues in the United States for the last 20 years. Foreman founded the Safe Food Coalition, which successfully conducted a 10-year campaign to improve meat and poultry inspection.

The Trumpeter award recognizes leaders who are not afraid to speak out for social justice and the rights of consumers and workers. Said League President Linda F. Golodner, "Carol has played an extraordinary role in the food safety fight. She has transformed stories of personal tragedy into tales of legislative success. Her work to improve inspection has helped make the food we eat safer."

Liz Claiborne was the other honoree. The company was chosen because of its role as co-chair of the White House Apparel Industry Partnership.

The League has presented the Trumpeter Award since 1973. Awardees include former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, Senator Tom Harkin, and other national advocates.
